THE ARTIST

Hailing from Taiwan, Suchen Wu is a dedicated practitioner of brush ink painting. Her artistic journey led her to earn an MFA with a distinguished scholarship from her homeland.

Drawing inspiration from the Lingnan school, Suchen's contemporary creations are a harmonious blend of artistic ingenuity and nature's tutelage. Rooted in the ethos of Learning from Nature, her work resonates with the influence of Zen and Daoist philosophy, embracing the values of simplicity, serenity, spontaneity, and innate authenticity. She feels privileged to have grown up in the countryside where her exploring and discovering spirit helps her capture nature’s beauty that resonates in her art.

After immigrating to Vancouver, the natural landscape drives Suchen even closer to the ecological environment found in waterscapes and woodlands. Her recent artwork focuses on a series of driftwood and migratory birds. The metaphorical stories of driftwood and migrating birds seek to address the conditions and impact of immigrants in the Canadian environment, people and culture. On a personal level, she strives to interpret the meaning of life, identity, and her new home in Vancouver.
